On February 18, the public of the republic remembers the famous doctor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Tatarstan, deputy of the State Council of Tatarstan of the 3rd convocation Shamil Sagitovich Karatai. He died on May 5, 2008, at the age of 62. He would have turned 78 today. "On the one hand, it is easy to talk about Shamil Sagitovich, since his life was in full view of everyone, on the other hand, it is very difficult because he was an unusual person. He devoted himself entirely to the science of protecting the population and possessed the gift of a comprehensive vision of phenomena and the broadest horizons in various fields. Importantly, Shamil Sagitovich had a positive energy that attracted people of different ages and professions to him," said Irek Ilgizovich Kadamov, Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan.
Doctors still say today that it is impossible to imagine medicine without a bathrobe, and the history of healthcare in the republic cannot be imagined without it. Shamil Karatai was the initiator of the creation of the first Department of Disaster Medicine in the Soviet Union.
His “child" is also the first republican rehabilitation center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Tatarstan in Russia. Since May 2016, a street in the Privolzhsky district of the capital of Tatarstan has been named after Shamil Karatai.
And if you just list all the activities of Shamil Sagitovich, you will need more than one page of text – his life was so multifaceted, which, unfortunately, ended so early. "He was ahead of his time in many ways," says Rafis Khabibullin (head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations in Tatarstan from 2007 to 2023) about Shamil Sagitovich. You can't say that about every person.
