The multifaceted life of Shamil Sagitovich Karatai
On February 8, the public of the republic remembers the famous doctor, Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, Deputy Minister of the EMERCOM of Tatarstan, deputy of the State Council of Tatarstan of the 3rd convocation Shamil Sagitovich Karatai, who died suddenly on May 5, 2008 at the age of 62.
The history of the republic's healthcare cannot be imagined without it. Shamil Karatai was the initiator of the creation of the first Department of Disaster Medicine in the Soviet Union.
He is known in the Republic as the creator of the territorial emergency medical service as part of the Disaster Medicine Center of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Tatarstan. The idea to organize a special service came after the earthquake in Armenia. Now the Republican Center for Disaster Medicine works at the RCB and is one of the best in the country.
His brainchild is also the first republican rehabilitation center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Tatarstan in Russia. Shamil Sagitovich was awarded the title of "Honored Scientist of the Republic of Tatarstan", the degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences. In addition to his professional activities, Shamil Karatai conducted active socio-political work, was elected a deputy of the State Council, and in recent years headed the Rehabilitation Center of the EMERCOM, which has been named after him since 2009.
Since May 2016, a street in the Privolzhsky district of the capital of Tatarstan has been named after Shamil Karatai. He would have turned 75 on February 18, 2022.
