The 16-year-old teenager from town Vasilevo of Zelenodolsky district of Tatarstan has rescued the fisherman who has fallen under the ice

That day - on November, 11th – Alexander Smorkalov has remembered for a long time. The fisherman has gone on the nearest reservoir. Having caught some fish,  he was going home but suddenly the earth, and it is more true – the ice has unexpectedly left from under his feet. The bicycle and a bag with fish instantly have left to bottom. Alexander vainly tried to grasp an ice crust - it foully cracked and broke. Already mentally having said goodbye, the fisherman with the last bit of strength began to call the aid. There was nearby a man, the passing by woman and 16-year-old Igor Kuzmin.

While adults tried to spread out boards on ice, the teenager has seized a long branch and began to steal up to the sinking person, at first by rash steps, and then lying, on all fours on ice. The first attempt has been unsuccessful, the branch has broken. Igor has crept up even closer. Having caught a saving branch, Alexander at last has got out of ice water. «Only thanks to this boy, I remained alive», - the 69-year-old pensioner admits. And that day he has not had time to learn at all neither a name, nor the address of the savior. The schoolboy has left home as soon as he was convinced that with the fisherman everything is all right. Only after some days, it is became known that the hero studies at Vasilevsky school №3.

With the request to note a courageous act of the 16-year-old teenager spouses Smorkalovs have addressed to a management of Vasilevo. Idea of pensioners have been supported. For courage and the resoluteness shown in an extreme situation, a deputy head of executive committee of settlement Vasilevo Alexei Korotkov and the chief of Zelenodolsky garrison of fire protection the colonel of internal service Zufar Khaliullin have handed over to the 9th grade schoolboy Igor Kuzmin letter of thanks and a memorable gift – a cell phone. Besides, 8th group of the FFS addressed to the chief of Central administrative board of the Ministry of Emergency Situation of Russia in RT - the minister of affairs on civil defense and emergency situations of Republic of Tatarstan, Rafis Khabibullin the petition for rewarding of the brave schoolboy by the state award of the Russian Federation - a medal «For rescue perishing».

P.S. As the reminder of this history, on an ice surface of small lake a dark stain remains in that place where the person fortunately wasn’t lost. However it at all does not frighten other fans of the ice fishing, continuing to wander on thin ice even at positive air temperature. Where is a limit of human carelessness and inappropriate self-confidence? Perhaps, at the bottom of an ice lake?
