Twenty-eight years ago, in April 1986 explosion of the fourth power unit of Chernobyl NPP. The scale of the tragedy could be immeasurably greater, if not for the courage and dedication of participants of liquidation of consequences of Chernobyl catastrophe, who arrived from all over the country, including from Tatarstan and entered in the "battle" with radiation. For several years in emergencies liquidators worked at the crash site, fulfilling their duty to protect citizens from harmful effects of radiation. These people call themselves heroes, but what they did was true heroism.
Today in the Republic there are about two and a half thousand liquidators, many of them from irradiation became disabled. The task of the Government of Tatarstan, ministries and departments, institutions and organizations of the Republic is to help these people, to preserve their health, to improve the quality of life and preserve the memory of their feat. In the Republic was published in the Book of Memory of participants of liquidation of the accident at the Chernobyl NPP. The authors of the publication was able to collect materials about 3462 liquidators, both living and deceased.
One of the major institutions in our region, conducting health improvement of citizens affected by radiation, is the Republican center of rehabilitation of the Ministry of emergency situations of the Republic of Tatarstan them. Sesorita. During its existence of more than twelve thousand Chernobyl disaster victims and other citizens affected by radiation, took a course of qualified medical and psychological treatment. The recent recruitment of the necessary diagnostic and therapeutic equipment positively affected the quality of provided medical and psychological assistance.
I have no doubt that further consolidation of efforts of authorities of all levels will help to support health and quality of life “Chernobyl victims”. On the day when the whole Russia honors the memory of victims of radiation accidents and catastrophes, we all should pay tribute to our countrymen, to honor those who did not survive to this day.
On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan I say sincere condolences to those whose family members, friends and comrades died. We are proud of our countrymen and will never forget their names. They did everything necessary and possible, send to death risk for the sake of preserving life.
