In order to avoid overcooling and frostbite do not go outside with no necessity, avoid long walks of children, pets and refuse long trips.
Basic risk factors of frostbite: tight and wet clothes and shoes, problems with blood vessels, alcoholic intoxication, and weakness and overfatigue. To avoid overcooling wear multilayerly, because air layers keep warmth, wear warm insoles and wool socks, because they absorb moisture saving feet dry, do not go outside without warm mittens, headdress and scarf; constant active movements are necessary.
When driving a car in bad visibility conditions refuse unnecessary line changing and overtaking.
Avoid sudden braking. Press the brake pedal several times, so that it will give a signal to drivers behind you. If possible, refuse trips and long walks on the natural environment.
For Drivers:
- pay attention to the technical conditions of the car, especially to braking system, tires condition. All optical devices should work;
- make a move smoothly, on a lower gear at low rotations;
- move with a speed that provides safety at places with heavy traffic, near schools, at crossroads and bridges, and at turns and slopes;
- on the move keep longer distance between vehicles than the usual, because braking distance on the slippery road significantly grows up;
- chose paths for the left and the right wheels with the similar road surface;
- accelerate for switching gears only on the straight areas of the road;
- to avoid a skid do not make jerky maneuvers, if the car is skidded when braking, quickly weaken the braking, and by rotating the steering wheel in the skid’s direction straighten the car;
- decelerate to stop the car, brake on the straight and flat area of the road.
Recommendations for pedestrians:
- wear comfortable shoes on the stable heel;
- cross the street on the marked pedestrian crossing, remember that because of low visibility and slippery road surface a driver needs more time to stop the vehicle;
- do not run across the road before a moving vehicle;
- when falling down traumatologists advise not to bring the hands forward, and try to fall down to the side, it will allow to avoid complicated fractures.
