In 1941 , Gafiatullina, father of three children, was called to the front. Initially, he served as a nurse. Then he was sent to the regimental training school of Junior commanders, whence he returned to the rank of Sergeant. He was appointed Deputy commander of the Department infantry company of the 20-th regiment of the 37th infantry division 22-th army. January 14, 1944 Sergeant Gafiatullin together with his office participated in the attack on the village Obsesivo Velikoluksky district of the Pskov region. He, killing one bunker, captured prisoners. Suddenly, however, the Germans opened fire from another bunker. What happened next, it is known from the text of the winner list:

«The German machine gunner continue to fire on our forces. Sergeant Gafiatullin with a gun and a grenade in his hand crept to the bunker. As he drew near he threw a grenade, ran to the bunker and closed up the breach of his body, and ensured the fulfillment Zadachina died, but the duty fulfilled.

In the result of the heroic feat of the infantry Sergeant of the 20th infantry regiment, went on the attack, and the village Obsesivo was taken, while the enemy suffered heavy losses in manpower.
