From equations to victories: how mathematics helps to put out fires

An unusual Open Day was held in the building of a separate post for the protection of the village of Bilyarsk of the Chistopol detachment. Tenth-graders from a local school came to visit the firefighters, and for one of the students, this event was a step towards serious success at the national level.

The tour began with an introduction to the profession of a firefighter. The children saw how the work of the duty guard was organized, visited the classroom and the garage, and learned about the daily routine of the fire service workers. I was particularly excited about the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of a fire truck and try on combat clothes.

Special attention was paid to the practical side of the work. The students were shown fire-fighting equipment and explained how mathematical calculations help in extinguishing fires. Based on the calculations, the required amount of fire extinguishing agents intended for extinguishing a fire is determined.

Hard training brought well—deserved success - Alexander Laptin took the 2nd place in the Republic of Tatarstan. This result confirmed that even complex calculations become understandable and interesting when their real practical applications are visible.

Such events do not just introduce children to the profession of a firefighter, they help teenagers realize the importance of exact sciences and, possibly, decide on a future profession. This means that the profession of a firefighter in Tatarstan has a worthy change.
