A meeting of the Commission for the Prevention and Elimination of Emergency Situations and Fire Safety of the Republic of Tatarstan was held today at the Government House of the Republic of Tatarstan. The meeting was held by the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Nigmatullin. The meeting was attended by Irek Kadamov, Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan, Andrey Orlov, Acting Minister of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, and heads of ministries and departments of the Republic.

The meeting was held as planned and was devoted to the issue of the region's readiness for the passage of the spring flood. Municipalities traditionally participated in the commission's meeting via videoconference.
As noted by Rustam Nigmatullin, the forecast for the upcoming spring flood is alarming, because there is a high probability of intense flooding: the volume of precipitation over the winter exceeded climatic indicators. The spring floods of the past years revealed the presence of problematic issues related to the unsatisfactory condition of hydraulic structures, the need for measures to clean and straighten riverbeds, shore protection and dredging.

Local governments and organizations have been instructed to ensure the implementation of a set of organizational, practical and control measures aimed at preventing and mitigating the consequences of possible emergencies related to the spring flood.

Rustam Nigmatullin reminded that there is a possibility of an unfavorable flood scenario. In that case, 218 settlements in 39 municipalities, 5,700 residential buildings, 9 socially significant facilities, 55 sections of highways and 28 automobile bridges may fall into the flood zone.

Therefore, in case of an unfavorable forecast, municipal districts will need to go into high alert mode, and in case of flooding, into emergency mode immediately. The meeting identified the immediate tasks before the onset of high water.
