A rally was held in Kazan today in memory of the participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl accident who heroically fulfilled their duty. The event within the framework of the 39th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy was traditionally held at the memorial complex in the park at the intersection of Yamashev and Amirkhan Avenues. Representatives of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Protection of the Republic of Tatarstan, the Mayor's Office and public organizations took part in the ceremony of laying flowers at the monument to Chernobyl victims.
More than one million Soviet citizens participated in the liquidation of this disaster, of which more than 3.5 thousand people from Tatarstan. More than 2,700 people were drafted from Tatarstan through military enlistment offices.
A minute of silence was observed in memory of those who died and died as a result of the Chernobyl accident. The guard of honor laid a basket of red roses at the foot of the memorial.
Honorary guests paid tribute to the liquidators of the Chernobyl disaster, including Nikolai Surzhko, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, who laid red carnations at the memorial complex.
