Yuri Venediktov: a sharp drop in the temperature of water and air is extremely dangerous and can lead to hypothermia, spasms, convulsions and, as a result, drowning

26 May 2023, Friday

Yuri Venediktov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan, took part in the briefing on the topic of ensuring safety on the water during the bathing season.
He noted that there are 5 days left before the start of the bathing season, but the situation on the water bodies of the republic is already extremely difficult and tense.
From May 21 to 24, three people drowned on the water: a 7-year-old girl, a 15-year-old teenager and an 18-year-old young man.
The established hot weather led to the fact that the population began to use water bodies for recreation, bathing, while with a heat of up to 30 degrees Celsius and above, only the air warmed up, and the water temperature is 18 degrees. Such a sharp drop in temperature is extremely dangerous and can lead to hypothermia, spasms, convulsions and, as a result, drowning, which is confirmed by recent events.
