This was stated today by Yuri Venediktov, Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan, during a briefing for media representatives.
Yuri Venediktov noted that the formation of ice is influenced by air temperature, precipitation, the presence of currents and wind speed. Stable sub-zero temperature was established only a week ago, only a few days at night it was about minus 10 degrees. Ice up to 5-7 cm was formed on reservoirs where there is no current, and in bays of rivers. Accordingly, for the formation of a safe thickness of ice, stable frosts have not yet been.
Thus, to date, the process of ice formation in reservoirs is still ongoing, the Kama and Volga rivers are open, and the thickness of ice in inland reservoirs still does not meet safety requirements in most cases.
