To date, flood prevention measures in the republic, including in Kazan, are in full swing. Of particular concern in the city are small rivers, along the banks of which private residential buildings are crowded close to the riverbed. Because of the frosty winter, the rivers are frozen almost to the bottom, the thickness of the ice shell is from 90 to 120 cm, and, in the case of a friendly melting of snow, they will overflow their banks and flood residential areas. Therefore, on these small rivers in Kazan, especially on those where there are many low-water bridges and crossings, various preparatory works are carried out to minimize the consequences of flooding.
Employees of the civil protection department and Kazan rescuers not only carry out work to minimize the consequences of the flood, but also ask the residents of Kazan to prepare for the flood – to dig ditches to divert meltwater from the houses. And in case of emergency, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has transport to evacuate residents from the flooded area.
-Today, the weather conditions are favorable for us. Snow cover ranges from 50 to 70 cm. Because according to the forecasts of weather forecasters, a gradual snow cover is expected. Naturally, the further flood situation will depend entirely on the temperature and condition of small rivers. We expect the peak of the flood in the third decade of April - early May. In Kazan, we have problem areas – these are small rivers and their coastal areas with residential areas.
