TO NOT GET LOST IN THE FOREST

From the beginning of mushroom and berry season, people rushed into the forest. The police, firefighters and rescuers got more work right then. More often, they have to depart for searching people lost in the woods because of unfamiliar locations. Just last week, emergency services had to depart to help the lost in the woods more than 20 times.

The Headquarters of EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan warn:

Before going to the forest think over the route for sure.

Tell relatives about where you go and when you expect to return.

Be sure to charge cell phone battery before going into the forest.

When you go into the forest, except the appropriate equipment, you should think of a stock of food and drink, explore the terrain on the map, and it is desirable to know the weather forecast. Assess your physical abilities and health status objectively.

Put on bright clothes and dress children into them.

Take a knife, water, matches with you.

If you get lost in the forest, dial the single emergency services number “112”.

What to do if you get lost:

1. Stay in place for an hour.

2. Go to the site of the last rest area and prepare it for the night, or wait for the time when your companions will return to you.

3. If you could not wait for your companions, you need to collect your thoughts, clear the area on the ground with the size of one meter to one meter and as accurately as possible draw the area’s sketch map of the location.

4. When leaving the forest alone the most important thing is not to lose self-control, and note the following:

- do not move in the dark. The night better suits for recuperation;

- do not to walk on animal trails;

- do not to go to swampy forest areas, especially covered with duckweed.

5. If you hear such noises as horns of cars, locomotives, and other signals of artificial origin, it is better to go to their sound.
