Appeal of the Chief of the Headquarters of EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan – Minister of Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, Lieutenant-General of Inner Service Rafis Khabibullin on the Day of Memory of Those Who Killed in Radiation Accidents and Disasters

Thirty-one year ago, on April, 1986, the fourth power unit at Chernobyl NPP exploded. Liquidators have been working in emergency situation conditions for several years. Those people called themselves heroes, but what they did was a true heroism. More than three thousand citizens of the Republic of Tatarstan took part in works on liquidation of the accident results. Many of them became disabled as a result of irradiation.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, I appeal with words of sincere condolence to those whose relatives, friends and comrades passed away. We are proud of our countrymen and we will never forget their names. They did all necessary and possible, took risks for the sake of salvation.
