GIMS Warns – Walking on the Ice is Dangerous!

Before the opening of rivers, lakes, reservoirs, the ice weakens, becomes friable, dangerous for passing over. Special attention must be paid during walking on the ice at winter fishing places. Especially you must be careful when you are going down from the shore: the ice can be connected to the mainland not tightly, there may be cracks, air under the ice. Also, the ice is weak near runoffs, at the places of plants growing, under snowdrifts.

During the period of spring floods and floating of ice, it is forbidden to:

- step on reservoirs during the spring period;
- pass over lakes during the period of ice floating;
- come close to lakes at place of ice blocks;
- stand on steep coast which is subjected to bottling and collapse;
- gather on bridges and dams;
- approach to ice blocks;
- push floes from the coast;
- measure a lake’s of any reservoirs depth;
- walk on floes and go for a drive on them.
