Storm Warning for February 16-17, 2016

In connection with the movement of extending cyclone to the European part of Russia, weather conditions on the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan will seriously deteriorate on February 16 and 17. During active frontal divisions the followings are awaited:

- precipitations in the form of snow, wet snow, mizzle, rain, icy rain;
- at places snowstorm, ice-slick, fog on February 16 in some places;
- in the evening of February 16 and during February 17, strengthening of South wing up to 15-20 m/s, at night and in the morning wind gusts at places up to 20-25 m/s;
- sharp variations of air temperature with short time temperature rising up to 0-3 degrees;
- strong ice-slick on roads.

The Headquarters of EMERCOM of Russia for the Republic of Tatarstan Recommends:

When driving a car in conditions of snowstorm, strong snowing, fog, and wind refuse unnecessary line changing, overtaking and outrunning. Avoid sudden braking. Press the brake pedal several times, so that it will give a signal to drivers behind you.

For Drivers:

- pay attention to the technical conditions of the car, especially to braking system, tires condition. All optical devices should work;
- make a move smoothly, on a lower gear at low rotations;
- move with a speed that provides safety at places with heavy traffic, near schools, at crossroads and bridges, and at turns and slopes;
- on the move keep longer distance between vehicles than the usual, because braking distance on the slippery road significantly grows up;
- chose paths for the left and the right wheels with the similar road surface;
- accelerate for switching gears only on the straight areas of the road;
- to avoid a skid do not make jerky maneuvers, if the car is skidded when braking, quickly weaken the braking, and by rotating the steering wheel in the skid’s direction straighten the car;
- decelerate to stop the car, brake on the straight and flat area of the road.

Recommendations for pedestrians:

- wear comfortable shoes on the stable heel;
- cross the street on the marked pedestrian crossing, remember that because of low visibility and slippery road surface a driver needs more time to stop the vehicle;
- do not run across the road before a moving vehicle;
- when falling down traumatologists advise not to bring the hands forward, and try to fall down to the side, it will allow to avoid complicated fractures.
