"The importance of supporting the families of CMO participants and overcoming stereotypes"

25 March 2026, Wednesday

The family of a serviceman participating in a special military operation is facing high levels of stress and anxiety for the life of a loved one. The emotional state of the family is caused by psychological pressure caused by uncertainty, increased danger and lack of information.

When one of the family members leaves to serve, inevitable changes occur in the family: the family structure changes, new roles and responsibilities appear, family rules and rituals change, and the lifestyle of family members changes. Such changes can lead to the fact that the family, as a single organism, loses its usual supports and experiences stress, which negatively affects the psychological health of its members. Possible manifestations of depressive states, anxiety disorders and family conflicts.

It is important to understand that psychological stress not only worsens the quality of life of a family, but also affects its ability to be a source of support for its participant.  Prolonged stress can lead to chronic psychological illnesses, deterioration of interpersonal relationships, and even social isolation. In cases of injury, disability, or return from captivity, the mindset to overcome difficulties is especially important. This attitude helps both the fighter and his family to successfully develop adaptive behavioral strategies and cope with difficult situations.

Each family is unique, and its experience deserves respect and attention. Psychological consultations, information support and organization of events — all this helps to maintain the stability of families and strengthen the morale of SMO participants.
