The Arakchino-Verkhny Uslon ice crossing is open to traffic

10 February 2025, Monday

Before the opening, exercises were held at the ferry to eliminate the consequences of a conditional accident. They were attended by employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Republic of Tatarstan and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Tatarstan, together with employees servicing the ice crossing. Doctors from the Disaster Medicine Center were also involved.
The idea of the exercise is based on a real incident that may occur at an ice crossing. Namely, the driver exceeded the speed limit, lost control and drove off the highway, as a result of which the car partially fell through the ice and caught fire. According to the "legend", there are two victims.
At the end of the exercise, SISV inspectors checked the thickness of the ice as part of a preventive visit. It was at least 30 centimeters.
The ice crossing makes it possible to reduce the length of the road by 62 kilometers, reduce travel time and save gasoline.
When the inspectors gave the go-ahead, the first passenger cars set off across the Volga ice from both sides. The permissible weight of vehicles should not exceed 3 tons.
