Hundreds of emergency workers ensure the safety of the Epiphany holiday

19 January 2020, Sunday

Sudden warming and weather conditions have led to additional security measures during the current Orthodox holiday "Epiphany of the Lord".

Due to changes in the structure of the ice cover, security measures had to be strengthened in places where the font was made. Although the thickness of the ice is quite large (about 30-35 cm), but its porosity and looseness do not allow for the moment to allow a large number of people to enter the ice. For example, in the villages of Vasilievo, Ilinskoe, and the Raif monastery of the mother of God, no more than 15 people were allowed to enter the font at the same time. And in Raif, in addition, the usual place where the jordan was traditionally equipped, this year had to be closed, because of the flooding of the so-called "ice town" with water. For those who want the ritual of bathing, the font was equipped near the gazebo.

Employees of the Ministry of emergency situations, police, and ambulance service ensure the safety of festive events. Previously, all places of bathing in open reservoirs were checked for safety - this includes the equipment of fonts with handrails, stairs for descent and ascent, and cleaning the surrounding area from snow, and the availability of rescue and swimming facilities. The personnel were given instructions on first aid in case of hypothermia, on duty, and on the procedure for emergency evacuation of people from dangerous areas.
