The contribution of Tatarstan to the elimination of the Chernobyl accident

April 26 in Russia is marked as the Day of participants in the elimination of the consequences of radiation accidents and catastrophes and the memory of the victims of these accidents and catastrophes.

Today in the Republic of Tatarstan live about two and a half thousand liquidators of the accident, many of them as a result of radiation became disabled. The task of the Government of Tatarstan, ministries and departments, institutions and organizations of the Republic is to help these people as much as possible, to preserve their health, improve the quality of life and preserve the memory of their feat. Thanks to the support of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, a Book of Memory of the participants of the Chernobyl accident was published. The compilers of the publication managed to collect materials about 3462 liquidators, both living and deceased.

The feat of our fellow countrymen is highly appreciated by the Homeland. 502 Tatarstan citizens were awarded state awards for their heroic contribution to the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. Of these, 10 people were awarded the order of the red Star, 6 people - the order of the red banner of Labor, 8 people - the order of "Badge of Honor", 3 people - the order of Friendship of peoples, 161 people the order of Courage; medal of the order "For services to the Fatherland" II degree - 138 people, medal "For courage" - 53 people, medal "For saving the dying" - 120 people.
